Arrival
Check-in for Project Wildcat will take place at the Norris University
Center South Lawn (1999 Campus Dr.). You may check-in with counselors
between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Monday, September 8th . You must check
in before 3:00 PM, as we can not wait for late arrivals. If you
absolutely must arrive sooner than Monday, September 1st, please fill
out the arrival sheet (which you will receive by mail) accordingly and
call the Project Wildcat office at (847) 467-7134 or email Project
Wildcat (projectwildcat@northwestern.edu). Dress comfortably when you
arrive. Most likely you will be bringing the clothes that you wear on
the trip. We are not out to impress anyone on arrival day, we're just
excited to have you all here.
Preparing for the Trip The
major aspect of the trip is general physical conditioning. A typical
day involves 6-8 hours of hiking. It is up to you to be in shape for
this trip. To avoid painful blisters, break in new boots wearing the
same socks you will wear on the trip; a liner pair of socks and then a
heavier pair of socks. We recommend that the heavier pair of socks
either be wool or synthetic wool. Avoid cotton socks! If you find areas
of chafing, you can experiment with different sock combinations or
apply tape or Moleskin to the areas of chafing. We cannot stress enough
the importance of breaking in new boots before the trip. |
